Specialty Camps
Campers enrolled in Specialty Camps will spend between three to five hours per day exploring the lessons and activities of their specialty. The remainder of the day will be spent doing other activities at the Kroc Center. Which may include: field games, swimming and rock climbing. Many Specialty Camps have Friday games or performances for family. Game and performance times will be noted on the weekly schedule and will take approximately 30 minutes.
Week 1: Magical Fantasyland | Ages: 5–8
A whimsical week where your camper will enjoy princess prancing and make their own unicorn fairy garden. Camper will swim like mermaids during a super fun mermaid party! This camp will be magical and who know, you might even attract a little unicorn magic along the way. Specialty Art Camp
Week 2: Intro to Basketball | Ages: 5–8
Introducing the game of basketball. Receive coaching on ball handling, lay ups, jump shots, and offensive skills, all with an emphasis on sportsmanship and teamwork. All skill levels welcome. Sports Camp
Week 4: Intro to Soccer | Ages: 5–8
Introducing the game of soccer. Designed for campers with limited experience with the game of soccer. Learn the fundamentals of the world’s most popular sport, including rules, ball-handling skills, and strategy: Scrimmages will be fun, with emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship
Week 6–8: Intro to Swim | Ages: 5–12
Learn water safety and swimming skills. Receive a 40-minute lesson Tuesday-Friday (Monday’s “Lesson” will be used for group placement assessments through water sports and games) From American Red Cross certified instructors, plus additional recreation swim time to practice and have fun. Build skills in general water safety, water adjustment, breath control, kicking, floating, gliding and paddling. Children must be comfortable swimming independently. All skill levels are welcome.
Week 1: Art in Action | Ages: 8–12
Campers will experience an artistic journey with creative and experimental hands on projects unique to them. Through different mediums of art, campers will learn that God expresses his love for us through his creations.
Week 2: Drawing Comics | Ages: 8–12
Through storybook imagination into art by learning to draw original superheroes, monsters, and animals, all while discovering the basics of character design, color, lettering, and perspective methods in a fun and creative environment. At the conclusion of the week, campers will get to take home a collaborative comic book drawn by the entire class. Designated for artist of all abilities.
Week 4: Culinary | Ages 8–12
The perfect camp for the young aspiring chef! Each day campers will be formally trained in classic cooking techniques and modern plating methods with an emphasis on local and organic produce, these young chefs will explore what it means to cook with their heart and all their senses. On the final day this brigade of artistes will thoughtfully prepare a three-course gourmet meal for their family in their very own pop-up restaurant. Bon Appetit!
Week 5: Digital Photography | Ages: 8–12
Create unforgettable moments with the touch of a button. During this offering, campers will learn about different types of photography and techniques, including long exposures, light painting, freezing motion, landscapes, and artistic shots. At the end of the week, campers hold a photographic art show, showcasing each campers’ favorite photographs that they took during the week.
Week 6: Intro to Performing Arts | Ages: 8–12
Campers will learn the fundamentals of performing arts. We will encourage building confidence. Participants will learn the audition process, perform monologues and scene work, and musical dance. This camp is low-pressure, centered on play acting and games. The last day of camp includes a 30-minute performance. Specialty Camp
Week 7: Robotics | Ages: 8–12
This hands-on STEAM camp is a perfect way to learn valuable, real-world technology skills through fun and engaging projects. Campers are engaged with LEGO gears and motors, robotics with LEGO EV3 and WeDo programming with Java and Python, and game coding with Scratch.
Week 8: Cinematography | Ages: 8–12
Have an aspiring actor, writer, or director at home? Campers will spend the week creating their own short films. These future film makers will be introduced to different aspects of the movie making process including story concept, writing activity, directing, and more. At the end of the week the final video(s) will be presented for family. Lights! Camera! Action!
